Born in Melbourne in 1964, Geoff Ricardo studied printmaking at the Chisolm Institute of Technology from 1984 to 1986. In both 1986 and 1988 he was awarded the Mornington Peninsula Arts Council Aquisitive Print Prize, and in 1989, the City of Doncaster Aquisitive Print Prize. In the same year his work was selected for two other group exhibitions: "Affiliations" Monash University, Melbourne Victoria and the Fremantle Print prize, Fremantle Western Australia.
Ricardo graduated from Monash University in 1990, obtaining the Graduate Diploma in Fine Art Printmaking. This corresponded with his first solo exhibition in Melbourne at Australian Galleries, called "Prints, Paintings and Sculptures". His work, at this time, was also included in the exhibitions "Australian Contemporary Art" AZ Gallery Tokyo Japan; "The Christmas Show" Intaglio Printmaker, London England; "AA '91", the London Contemporary Art Fair, London England; and "Table Top Sculptures" at Australian Galleries in Melbourne.
On his return, Ricardo resumed work as a lecturer in Printmaking at Monash University. In 1992, he held his second one man show "Prints, Sculptures and Watercolours" at Australian Galleries in Melbourne and Sydney, and exhibited in three group shows: "Transitional Times", Print Council of Australia, Freemantle Print Prize, and the 2nd Kochi International Triennial Exhibition of Prints, Japan. In 1993, Ricardo was commissioned for a tapestry design for the Festival of Perth Official Poster - the tapestry being woven by the Australian Tapestry Workshop in Melbourne.
Ricardo has continued to exhibit regularly, having held annual solo exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney since 1994, solo exhibitions in Perth in 1994 and 1996, as well as in Adelaide in 199 , and participating in numerous group shows throughout Australia. His paintings, prints and sculptures are represented at the Austrlaian National Gallery in Canberra, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Tasmania, the Holmes A'Court Collection in Wetern Australia, and other regional galleries and institutions. His work is also in Many private collections.
