About the exhibition

Kristin Headlam's exhibition A Domestic Sublime is comprised of a suite of etchings firmly based in the tradition of drawing. In a number of works the etched lines are selectively augmented by the use of drypoint, one by a splash of hand painted colour, and another by the extensive use of spit bite.     

The exhibition includes eight works that are Headlams' response to poems by her partner Chris Wallace Crabbe from the Collections The Amorous Cannibal, Oxford University Press, 1985 and Telling a Hawk from a Handsaw, Carcanet Press Limited Manchester 2008

                  HAIR 

Heaping, coruscating, a waterfall

light enough for the breeze to leaven,

this all too human foliage

to fill a lover’s hand, a coffin

or the red eye of St. Paul.

        ARTICHOKE 

Children’s drawings of trees

approximate you

with your striated trunk

and dense neat head

                          inflorescent

of purplish scales or flakes

for our buttery meals,

seeming a sort of edible pinecone,

a green knight’s club

or else an absolute rose.
